About Us
Beta History
In 1974, 4 gentlemen in the sheet metal industry decided to start a company manufacturing sheet metal parts and a new type of material called "Laminated Sheet Metal". The name of the company was "Blaisdell East", located in Norwalk, Connecticut, as they were the East Coast partner of Blaisdell located in California. The company started with just a small order for military steel insoles and a lot of determination. Shortly after forming the new partnership, they had the opportunity to begin manufacturing stamped sheet metal parts for Sikorsky Aircraft. The relationship with Sikorsky blossomed over the years and other aerospace customers were entered into the growing business.

In 1985, the company name change to Beta Shim Company. Over the next couple of years, 3 owners of Beta Shim Company were bought out by the 4th owner, John McCue. By this time, Beta Shim Company's primary customer was Sikorsky Aircraft, but they also had Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, Hamilton Sundstrand, Northrop Grumman, Electric Boat, BMW, and many more government contracts.
In 1995 John McCue moved Beta Shim Company to Shelton Connecticut, in a 20,000 sq ft building, to be closer to their primary customer Sikorsky Aircraft, located in Stratford Connecticut. Over the next 10 years, Beta Shim doubled in employment and revenue adding over 500 customers to their yearly revenue. The Beta Shim catalog now includes Laminated Sheet Metal, Military Stainless Steel Insoles, Metal Stampings, Milling, Machining, Bushings, Light Assembly, and Military Packaging.

Expanding into the ever growing CNC manufacturing sector (through the acquisition of top-tier equipment and labor) has been a Beta Shim priority for many years. We are constantly increasing our CNC manufacturing capacities to keep pace with market demands. However, at Beta Shim we believe strategic flexibility to be a critical asset in this dynamic marketplace. To this end we have maintained a parallel conventional manufacturing capacity to augment our process agility. When your project requires proven experience and that craftsman's touch for a small run high value prototype, our tooling specialists and engineers work alongside customers to ensure the job is done right the first time. Our core competencies include, but are not limited to: Stamping/Punching (CNC-Conventional), Milling/Machining (CNC-Conventional), Lathes/Turning (CNC-Conventional), Laminated Sheets/Shims, Insoles, and Logistics.
In addition to our manufacturing agility Beta Shim possess unique process management agility. We are fully integrated with the SAP system as deployed by UTC and subsidiaries. Whatever system is used by your business, Beta Shim can seamlessly integrate into your process management infrastructure with astonishing speed.
